Cast Iron Golf Clubs Or Forged?

By: Lee MacRae

With such a large variety of golf clubs on the market today, it is no wonder that many newcomers to the game have a hard time when it comes to choosing new clubs.

Follow along as we discuss each type and what may be best for you.

How tall are you? Standard clubs are made for anyone between 5 to 6 feet tall and should work out fine. That principle applies to both men and women. Anyone else should consider looking to custom clubs for the best fit.

Cast or forged iron clubs. Which?

For virtually all golfers, the stock cast iron golf clubs will be the soundest way to go.

What makes cast iron the right choice for most? Well, cast iron golf clubs normally have a bigger "sweet spot". That term refers to the area in the middle of the face of the club head where the ball should be struck for maximum distance and accuracy. A larger sweet spot gives you a larger striking area and greater odds for a well-hit shot. You can still be a little "off center" and the ball is still struck well because you have a larger margin of error. You can see why beginners are usually told to stay with cast iron clubs Their swing is not as consistant as a seasoned golfer or a pro and so they have an easier time driving the ball well with a larger sweet spot at their disposal. That is why clubs like "Big Bertha" came on the market. The large oversized head obviously gives a much larger sweet spot than a normal driver. Average golfers get longer and straighter drives on a more consistant basis.

By contrast, forged iron golf clubs are "harder to hit" a good shot with as they have a smaller sweet spot.

So why are forged clubs even made?

Because the "softer" forged metal gives the golfer a better feel than the harder cast iron does. The more experienced player has a much more defined and repeatable swing, allowing them to hit the smaller sweet spot with much more consistancy. They don't need that larger "margin of error" the beginner needs. And now, the better "feel" allows him or her the added advantage of being able to manoevre and/or "shape" each shot to the circumstances as needed.

The shaft of the club is your next thing to look at. Specifically the material it will be made from. Basically, you have steel or composite shafts

How fast can you swing your golf club? Average speed for a golfer falls in the range of 80 to 95 mph. If you have a slower club head speed then you need to look to composite materials. With a slower swing speed comes less distance on your drives. Less distance means more shots needed to reach the putting green. Not a good thing if you want to lower your score. Composite shafts will allow you to get that much needed distance on your shots. And even within the composite shaft class, you will find variations in flex and materials that will affect your game.

By contrast, those with good distances on their shots, will fare much better by using a steel shaft that will give them some touch and control on their shots.

You can find out your own swing speed by looking for a golf store that has a velocity speed gun or a radar gun package. It won't cost you much and you will know very quickly which type of shaft is best for you. You can even find some battery operated doppler radar devices on the market that you can set up and use to determine your club velocity by yourself.

With merely these few starting points, it is usually best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club aids or hinders your game. You are seeking to see your individual strong points or weaknesses. Try the various types and kinds of golf clubs available to you and, in time, you will be able to determine which clubs offer the best advantages for your game.

These simple golf driving tips have proved effective in helping many golfers around the world improve their drives off the tee. Simply apply what you have read here to your own circumstances. Here's to your own improvement!

How To Play Bunkers And Sand Traps

By Lee MacRae

Getting out of a bunker or sand trap in one shot can do wonders for your confidence and your golf game. Follow along as we lay out some tips, tricks and hints to help you with your sand play and watch the improvement in your next round of golf.

The longer bunker shot is one of the easiest shots to play and one of the most satisfying in the is entire game. Here are the six fundamentals of the bunker shot:

1. Choke down on the grip of the club to compensate for having to dig your feet into the sand to anchor your body.

2. Do not move the legs during a swing.

3. Take two or sometimes three extra clubs to make up for distance loss by the arms-and-hands-only swing. If you're within reach of the green, take as much club as you'll need for the ball to land near the hole. Because you're hitting down in to the back of the ball, the ball should have enough spin on it to stop quickly.

4. Play the ball in the middle of your stance so you can make contact before the bottom of your swing arc.

5. Always hit the ball first.

6. Don't ground your club. That's a two-stroke penalty.

Here is a simple way of remembering how much to open a blade of your sand wedge. Taken an open stance, with your feet aiming to the left of the hole. Then simply open the clubface until it is aiming directly act of the hole. Now, swing outside-to-in across the ball, and your ball will pop out and bounce and roll slightly to the right, toward the hole.

Because every golfer wants to get up and down from greenside sand, there is always a great pressure to hit the ball close from a bunker. The fact is, however, that a top pro who gets up and down half the time is doing very well indeed. For this reason you should not concentrate on hitting sand shots to tap-in range [that is, to within three feet] as you would do for a long putt. Focus instead on hitting to within a target that's 12 to 15 feet in diameter. That gives you up to 7 1/2 feet to play with on each side of the hole can be much easier bull's-eye to deal with. You'll be more relaxed and will hit the ball even closer.

And no matter what the circumstances are, don't allow tension to ruin your techinque. Tension will ruin even the best of golf swings. Keep your body and your mind loose and positive. Always imagine yourself handling the shot with success. What the mind sees, the body will do. You golf game will improve immensly when you add these tips.

For The Beginner - Cast Iron Golf Clubs Or Forged?

By: Lee MacRae

With a larger variety of golf clubs coming onto the scene every week, it can become more and more difficult to determine just exactly what you should be looking for when buying new clubs.

We will go through a few basic tips to help you determine which golf clubs are right for you.

First, take note of your height. Standard golf clubs are designed for individuals bewteen five and six feet. That goes every bit for both men and women. Taller or shorter? Then I suggest you take a look at custom made clubs. It will help your game considerably.

Cast Iron or Forged Iron Golf Club?

Standard cast iron golf clubs are the normal way to go.

Why do we say that? Very simply because standard cast iron clubs tend to have a larger "sweet spot". The trem refers to the best area on the club face that will give you the maximum range and accuracy on a shot. The bigger the sweet spot, the better chance of hitting well it every time. It makes it a little easier to hit the "bulls eye" every time on your shots.

So why are forged clubs even sold?

This is due to the fact that forged iron offers a better "feel" on your shot because it is a softer metal than cast iron. The better players, on the other hand, will give up that larger sweet spot [and even some distance] to get that better feel of each and every shot they take. With a more consistant swing, they usually strike the ball dead center on most shots anyway. With the better feel of the forged iron club, they can draw, fade, hook or slice the ball deliberately when circumstances on the golf course require it.

The next item to consider is the material for the shaft. Will it be composite or steel?

The significant factor here is club speed. A typical golfer will have a club head velocity between 80-94 mph. A slower swing speed usually signifies you had better think of using a shaft made from composite material . The result of lower swing speed is less yardage on each shot. You want to find some way to offset your lower swing speed. And that is where the composite shaft material comes in. The composite shaft will give you longer drives than you will normally get with your low swing speed and steel shafted golf clubs.

For those of you with faster swing speeds, and subsequenlty good distances, steel shafted clubs will give you a lot more control on your shots. This is very similar to the advantages of iron over cast clubs.

In order to determine your personal swing speed, look for a sports shop or golf store that has speed sensor equipment and get yourself clocked.

With merely these few starting tips, it is normally best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club helps or hampers your game. You are seeking to ascertain your individual strong points or weaknesses. Try out the various types and varieties of golf clubs available at your local golf course or in a nearby town and see what you can learn. You will soon determine the best approach to improving your personal score.

These simple golf driving tips have proved effective in helping many golfers around the world improve their drives off the tee. Simply apply what you have read here to your own circumstances. Here's to your own improvement!

Golf Putting Aids Can Shave Strokes Off Your Score

By: Trent

Practicing your putting can get monotonous and boring; and a training aid specific to your putting problem can make all the difference in the world. In fact, by keeping you interested in practicing your putting, these aids can hone your putting leaps and bounds ahead of your playing partners and competitors.

What is your putting deficiency?

There can be many issues/problems in your putting. You can have excess head and body movement. Poor putter path back and through; inconsistent contact with ball and putter face; erratic tempo throughout stroke, and many others. The list can go on and on, but I think you get the idea.

Figuring out what your issue is will give you direction on what putting aid to look in to. These training aids can get very expensive, so you do not want to be hasty and premature in your purchase decision. In fact, sometimes you can make your own golf putting aid if need be.

Try it before you buy it!

Many of these training aids for putting can be demoed right in the store. Why not try it before you buy it? What a novel idea eh? If you give it a go first, you will have a better idea of whether it can help your putting or not.

Ive gone into the golf shop looking at these, tried one, and was blown away at how different it was to actually use it first. NeverI mean never buy it without trying to find it locally! Youre throwing your money out the window!

Use it consistently!

Once youve purchased your golf putting aid, use it consistently to see improvement. So many golfers buy something on a whim, only to use it once or twice and thats it! Not a smart move if you want to see results.

Like anythingconsistency is the key to success!

Cast Iron Golf Clubs Or Forged?

By: Lee MacRae

With so many different makes and types of golf clubs on the market, it is no wonder beginners, let alone the more experienced golfer, can become easily confused when it comes to buying clubs.

Follow along as we examine what is available on the market today and what they can do for you...and your golf game.

First, take note of your height. Standard golf clubs are designed for individuals bewteen five and six feet. That goes every bit for both men and women. Taller or shorter? Then I suggest you take a look at custom made clubs. It will help your game considerably.

Cast or Forged Clubs?

For most folks, the standard cast iron golf clubs are the best way to go.

Why do we say that? Well, cast iron golf clubs normally have a bigger "sweet spot". This is the are in the center of the club face where "forces" are said to be perfectly balanced to deliver the perfect shot. The larger the "sweet spot" on a club face, the more area you have to strike the ball well. You can still be a little "off center" and the ball is still struck well because you have a larger margin of error. It is for that main reason the beginners are steered towards cast iron clubs. Their swing is not as consistant as a seasoned golfer or a pro and so they have an easier time driving the ball well with a larger sweet spot at their disposal. That is why you see a lot of oversized club heads on the market today. They allow average duffers the opportunity of striking the ball well and getting great drives more often.

Forged iron clubs are generally the opposite. Harder to hit with because of a smaller sweet spot on the club face.

Which begs the question. Why make forged iron clubs?

For a very simple reason. Cast iron is a softer metal that offers a better "feel" on a shot. The more experienced golfers can use this feel to great advantage, shaping their shots, even curving them intentionally when the circumstances require it. So, in effect, they trade off the larger sweet spot for the shot shaping feel of a forged iron club.

The next thing to look at is the shaft itself. Will we get one made from steel? Or will it be a composite material?

The significant measure here is golf club velocity. A typical, everyday golfer will possess a club velocity of 80 to 94 mph. Slower speeds generally imply you should look to using a shaft made from composite material. The problem with lower speed is you get less distance on your shots. You need to generate more speed [and more power] or find some way to compensate until you can. And that is where the composite shaft material comes in. The composite shaft will give you longer drives than you will normally get with your low swing speed and steel shafted golf clubs.

On the other hand, if you already have good distance on your shots due to good swing speed, you can add some touch and feel to your game very similar to that obtained by using the forged iron clubs. You get the best of both worlds.

In order to determine your personal swing speed, look for a sports shop or golf store that has speed sensor equipment and get yourself clocked.

With simply these few starting hints, it is ordinarily best if you rent a few different sets of clubs as you play and take note of how each club helps or impedes your game. You are searching to learn your personal strengths as well as weaknesses. Use as many clubs as you can beg, borrow, steal or rent. The more you use, the more you will learn about your own game.

If you implement these tips and work on them, you will be certain to develop a better drive within a short period of time. Just keep on practicing and working on your improvement. It's only a matter of time before your scores begin to drop.

Develop a great golf swing with an amazing golf training aid!

Which Golf Clubs Are For You?

By: Lee MacRae

With such a large variety of golf clubs on the market today, it is no wonder that many newcomers to the game have a hard time when it comes to choosing new clubs.

We will go through a few basic tips to help you determine which golf clubs are right for you.

To begin with, it can be stated that "off the shelf" golf clubs will work for nearly everybody standing between 5 feet and six feet tall. That can be said to apply to men as well as to women. Shorter or taller golfers may need to look to the custom club for proper equipment.

Cast or forged iron clubs. Which?

Well, the best answer is usually "cast iron".

What makes cast iron the right choice for most? Well, cast iron golf clubs normally have a bigger "sweet spot". The trem refers to the best area on the club face that will give you the maximum range and accuracy on a shot. The bigger the sweet spot, the better chance of hitting well it every time. Being a little off center will not affect your shot to any great degree. You can see why beginners are usually told to stay with cast iron clubs Without a steady consistant swing, a larger striking area will produce better shots overall. That is why clubs like "Big Bertha" came on the market. The large oversized head obviously gives a much larger sweet spot than a normal driver. Average golfers get longer and straighter drives on a more consistant basis.

Conversely, forged iron golf clubs have a much smaller sweet spot and it is far more difficult to hit a ball well with this kind of club.

Why, you ask, are forged iron clubs even made then?

For a very simple reason. Cast iron is a softer metal that offers a better "feel" on a shot. The more experienced golfers can use this feel to great advantage, shaping their shots, even curving them intentionally when the circumstances require it. So, in effect, they trade off the larger sweet spot for the shot shaping feel of a forged iron club.

Next question, will you use steel or a composite material for the shaft of your new club?

How fast can you swing your golf club? Average speed for a golfer falls in the range of 80 to 95 mph. If you have a slower club head speed then you need to look to composite materials. The result of lower swing speed is less yardage on each shot. You want to find some way to offset your lower swing speed. And that is where the composite golf club shaft enters the picture. It gives you a lot more distance than you would get with your normal swing and a steel shaft.

For golfers with faster swing speeds, you don't necessarily need more distance. What you really want is more control. A steel tube shaft will give you that control to go along with your acceptable distance.

In order to determine your personal swing speed, look for a sports shop or golf store that has speed sensor equipment and get yourself clocked.

Another good item which is used to protect your golf clubs (normally your woods) is the golf head cover, this is a device which slides over the club and protect the club from damage.

Basically, there are two main components to play golf - there are the golf ball and the golf clubs. The golf ball is not just a ball it is a scientifically designed piece of equipment. The dimples on a golf ball are designed so that there is less resistance in the air - if you look closely at different brands of golf ball the dimples are slightly different and it you count the dimples on a golf ball some balls have more than others. The inside of the golf ball is also different - this inside of the ball is normally determined by how much spin you want to be able to impart onto the ball, both in the air and upon contact with the ground.

Almost every private course that I can think of however requires all players to wear collared shirts when playing on their course. Finding Your Putters Sweet Spot

By: Jeff Austin

The sweet spot is the particular spot that every golf club has, where it hits with pure impact. The shot feels good, looks good and gives the best results.

The sweet spot is a small spot around your clubs center of gravity, when you hit a ball with the sweet spot it goes exactly where you want it to go because the head doesnt move out of alignment with the target.

Statistics show that if you miss the sweet spot by as little as a quarter of an inch you will miss every putt by at least eight feet, the sweet spot is that important to your ability to putt.

On most putters the sweet spot is marked by a line or arrow that has been cut into the topline or the part of the putter you see when you are addressing the ball.

It is not uncommon for this factory mark to be off by a little, so find the sweet spot for yourself and mark it properly.

To find the sweet spot on your putter, hold the putter lightly out in front of you by the thumb and forefinger and allow it to swing easily, hold it in the same position it would be in if you were putting, now tilt the shaft until the bottom of the putter is parallel to the ground.

Using the eraser end of a pencil or some other pointed object, gently tap the putterface until you find the one spot that causes the head to swing back and forth without any twisting of the face, no wobbling and with little or no vibration.

You have found your putters sweet spot; mark it well for reference during play. Making a grove in the top of the putter is one way to mark it; you may want to fill the groove with white paint so it is easier to see.

Golf Mind Power For A Life Change

By: Randy Friedman

When you learn to get out of your own way, the world becomes an easier place. I believe when you go within, you wont go without!

Hypnosis is a completely safe modality of therapy used frequently in sports (especially golf hypnosis) and personal development concepts. As a Motivational mind power speaker and Certified hypnotherpist, Randy knows how to help you get out of your own way. Here are some answers to questions that have arisen about gaining mind power through hypnosis.

1. What IS hypnosis?

Imagine a beautiful tropical beach in your mind, smell the salty ocean air, feel the warm breeze brush through your hair, see the gentle waves caress back and forth on the shore this may be part of the induction used to bring you to a place of complete relaxation.

Hypnosis is NOT a sleep state even though a person in hypnosis may appear to be sleeping. Charles Tebbetts, a top teacher of hypnosis, defined hypnosis as, There is no legal definition of hypnosis. Websters dictionary describes it incorrectly as an artificially induced sleep, but it is actually a natural state of mind and induced normally in everyday living much more often than it is induced artificially. Every time we become engrossed in a novel or a motion picture, we are in a natural hypnotic trance.

As a Hypnotherapist I am more like a guide who facilitates the hypnotic process. My words guide the subject into a relaxed state of body and mind. Technically, a person experiencing hypnosis slows down their brain waves from BETA into ALPHAand some people actually enter THETA during deep trance states. (THETA is normally the dream state we pass through on the way to and from DELTAor deep sleep.) Interestingly enough, we all pass through ALPHA on the way to and from sleep, so in a sense all of us experience hypnosis at least twice daily.

Hypnosis is the heightened state of awareness where the conscious mind is bypassed, and the subconscious mind is brought into focus. When the subconscious mind is alert, positive suggestions are made for changes to take place.

Simply put, hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state of mind, where suggestions are made to effect a desired change. It can also be thought of as guided meditation.

2. Does a hypnotized person lose control?

I hear this quite often and actually, it teaches you how to gain your mind power control. Remember the last time you watched a movie and you actually felt emotion? You were literally in a hypnotic trance, although you still have the power to come out from that state if you so desired. Your mind may be guided by a movie, TV show, self-hypnosis audio program, or Hypnotherapist, but YOU still have the power to resist.

Some people who seem to partially give up control of their minds (like in Stage Hypnosis), is because of a misunderstanding of who has the power. One can be TRICKED into believing that they have given up control in some forms of stage hypnosis. Always remember, ALL HYPNOSIS IS SELF-HYPNOSIS. You have the control of letting your conscious mind get into a deeply relaxed state. Its important to realize the real power iswithin OUR OWN MINDS! That is what MIND POWER is all about, learning to gain control of your thoughts.

Hypnosis is like a massage for the brain!

3. What does hypnosis feel like?

Since hypnosis is a natural state of mind, clients are often surprised that they hear every word. You may have a feeling of calm, and light (or weightless), or very heavy as if sinking into the chair. In a really deep state, the feeling may be euphoric for some, or almost like being intoxicated without the side effects. In the first session some only go into only a light state of trance, and may believe that he or she was not hypnotized. With progressive sessions, and trust is built, students usually let go and do go to deeper levels of trance, which can be more beneficial.

Certain abilities may be enhanced during the hypnotic process itself:

 The ability to IMAGINE

 The ability to REMEMBER

 CREATIVE abilities

 Receptiveness to SUGGESTIONS

The last ability creates the appeal of hypnosis as well as the fear of hypnosis to others. There is nothing to fear with a trusted professional. Here lies the real advantage in hypnotherapy. It is the capacity for the subconscious mind to accept suggestions while in a relaxed trance state that makes hypnosis so effective. Its the reason top athletes, actors and politicians make use of it.

Weighting of clubs is a vital component of today's clubs as players can adjust the height they hit the ball or control shots such as a draw or fade. Slicers eager to find a quick solution to their problem may go for a club with more of a draw bias and vice versa for a player who tends to hook a lot.

Equipment, Golfing equipment has moved on a tremendous amount since the games inception, as has the accessories that are now available. Perhaps the most important of these accessories to your enjoyment of the game, both in term of game improvement and the overall benefits to your health is the golf trolley. An electric golf trolley also contributes to your performance by helping you to maintain muscle control, balance and body symmetry throughout the entire game. Pushing or pulling a heavy trolley strains your muscles and people who pull their carts have the maximum chance of getting a back sprain. The ultimate result is that you fail to make the best strokes that might have got you a birdie. An electric Golf trolley, as the name suggests, is a battery operated automatic cart that could be either manual or remote control. It provides easy transportation of clubs from tee to green and allows a normal upright posture while walking. This reduces the risk of strains and injuries. This also provides added comfort and helps the golfer to concentrate on his swing.

How To Buy A Beginner Set Of Golf Clubs

By: Al Scillitani

I was recently looking for golf club sets. As some of you may know, golf clubs can be very expensive. Here is how to purchase a great set of quality clubs for a very low price.

What I was looking for?

I am new to golf. I was looking for a set that would not cost a lot of money in case I did not like the game. I was also looking for a set that was of high quality and did not fall apart or greatly affect my game because of the poor quality. I would prefer not to buy new name brand clubs because of price, so I bought used. I want a quality used set that will let me get a good feel for the game without costing a ton of money.

I would like to keep all the irons the same brand. Having the brand for my driver, woods, and hybrids different from my irons would not be an issue for me. Having a different brand of sand wedge and putter would not be a problem either.

Whats in my bag?

Irons: Tommy Armour 855

Tommy Armour because of the brand and reputation for quality clubs.
Regular Shaft because I am unsure of my full capabilities so I wanted to start with the norm.
Graphite because it is more flexible and should help with distance.

This set of Irons was my first purchase. The set was used, in good condition, and was only $99 on GlobalGolf.com. The set includes irons 3 thru 9 and a pitching wedge. New would probably be around $300.
Total Cost So Far: $99, Total Savings So Far: $200

Driver: MacGregor MacTec NVG2

Graphite shaft, 11.5 degree loft.

Graphite again because of the flexibility. I bought the 11.5 degree loft because it will help with getting the ball in the air. As a beginner, getting the ball in the air may be your biggest challenge.

Drivers may be your most expensive purchase. Some new drivers can be $500 or more. I felt the MacGregor MacTec NVG2 was the best bang for the buck. This club new would be $299, used is only $59.99 in mint condition. You cant beat that!
Total Cost So Far: $158,99, Total Savings So Far: $440

Wood: MacGregor MacTec Again, 3 Wood

Same reasons as my driver choice graphite, regular shafts. The quality to price ratio cant be beat. I chose a 3 wood with 15 degree loft, $29.99 in very good condition (new $199). This was my only wood because I will be purchasing 2 hybrids (2 and 5). A #2 hybrid is very close to a 5 wood.
Total Cost So Far: $188.98, Total Savings So Far: $610

Hybrids: MacGregor MacTec #2 and #5

For consistency, I would like to keep my hybrids MacGregors as well. Graphite and regular stiffness to go with the rest of my clubs. The #2 hybrid was orig $199, used was only $29.99 and the #5 Hybrid was $199 new, used was only $34.99.
Total Cost So Far: $253.96, Total Savings So Far: $945
What is left? I need to add a sand wedge and putter to my bag. Lastly, I will need a bag. I am not too concerned if the sand wedge and putter are Tommy Armour, MacGregor, or a different brand. Switching brands with these 2 clubs will most likely not affect my game.

Sand Wedge and Putter: Cleveland 900 Sand Wedge and Odyssey Dual Force Putter

Cleveland is known for excellent wedges and Odyssey is known for excellent putters. The wedge is 56 degrees and has a steel shaft. The wedge new would be $49.99, used in very good condition $29.99. The putter also has a steel shaft and new would be $39.99 and used in very good condition $29.99.
Total Cost So Far: $313.94, Total Savings So Far: $975

The Bag:

For me, I am not too interested flashy bells and whistles for my bag. I am sure when I get better, I will change my mind. I found an inexpensive stand bag for only $39.99, normally $59.99.

Summary of Beginner Golf Set:
All used golf clubs and the new golf bag were from GlobalGolf.com

Iron Set Tommy Armour
Driver MacGregor
3 Wood MacGregor
2 Hybrid MacGregor
5 Hybrid MacGregor
Sand Wedge Cleveland
Putter Odyssey
Bag RJ Sports

Total Cost Used: $353.93, Total Cost New: $1345.97 for a savings of $990

Winning Golf Resort Vacations

By: Winifred Holstone

Sun, sand, blue skies . . . and golf? If this sounds like your idea of paradise, then a golf resort vacation could be the ideal retreat you've been looking for.

Golf is a universal sport, and so there are wonderful golf courses virtually anywhere you're willing to travel. Here are just a few of the world's favorite golf resort destinations:

* Hawaiian Islands

Hawaii's many golf resorts offer the ultimate sports vacation. There are six glorious islands, each offering resorts that have been created just for golfers. Every day is the perfect day to golf in Hawaii, so it's an ideal year-round destination for avid golfers. No wonder so many of the world's leading golf course architects and athletes make the trip to experience the pinnacle of golf resorts. Kauai, Oahu, and Maui are popular for golf resorts that dreams are made of.

Hawaii's Maui island is home to some of the world's most impressive golf resorts. These little pieces of paradise offer sweeping views of the Maui coastline and glimpses of neighboring Lanai and Molokai islands. Humpback whales can be seen swimming along the coastline in winter, presenting Hawaiian golfers with yet another amazing site to add to the greens. A Maui golf resort is a true golfer's paradise, with spectacular scenic views of mountains and oceans, challenging golf courses and sloping terrains.

Given the extreme beauty and excitement of a Hawaiian golf resort vacation, it can be difficult to book a tee time. Despite the fact that these resorts can be more expensive, they are not always able to accommodate all of the golfers wishing to spend time on the greens.

* California

No "World's Best Golf Resorts" list is complete without naming some of the destinations found in Southern California. Home to many of the golf's most historic events, California golf resorts are among the best in the world, often chosen for International tournaments.

California offers a combination of natural beauty, perfect climate and genuine elegance, making it the perfect choice for business and for pleasure. Among the state's many celebrated places to play are the Double Tree Golf Resort, Pala Mesa Golf Resort and Mount Woodson. Whether you tee off with a view of the ocean, or a glimpse of those majestic mountains, California can be a truly remarkable place to spend your golf vacation.

* Golf Resorts in Michigan

The state of Michigan has earned the reputation as "America's Summer Golf Capital". There are 1000 golf resorts and courses, offering first-rate services and placing Michigan in 12th place on Golf Digest's list of best golf destinations in the world. In fact, four of America's Top 75 golf courses are located in Michigan. Clear waters, breathtaking vistas and lush fairways hook first-time visitors, and keep them coming back time and again.

* Golf Resorts in Florida

You can golf till you drop in Florida, because this state has more golf courses and golf resorts than you could begin to imagine. Of course, the golf courses and resorts in Florida offer first-rate facilities and amenities, from their pro golf shops and putting greens to the driving ranges, bars and restaurants.

Over the years, Florida has played host to many golf tournaments, including the international PGA and LPGA tours. In Florida, golf is nothing short of outstanding. With excellent accommodations and the best in dining, it's everything that a golfer could want in a golf resort vacation.

* Myrtle Beach Golf Resorts

Myrtle Beach is known as the "World's Golfing Capital", and home to first-rate golf resorts. With so many golf courses situated in and around Myrtle Beach, it would be difficult to find another place in the world that matches the sheer density of options.

* Golf Resorts in Ireland

You can search the world over, but nothing beats Ireland for real excitement, rugged challenges, excellent vistas and world-class golfing amenities. While it may not fit the typical "resort destination" bill, a golf vacation in Ireland is an experience that no golfer should live without.

If golfing is your passion, then consider a golf resort for your next getaway. With any luck, your spouse loves the sport as much as you do, and you can share the fun and excitement of your dream vacation.

Your clubs are probably the first piece of golf equipment to consider for an upgrade, once your on the verge of challenging Tiger for the crown. You could decide to replace the entire set of clubs, if money is no object, and your appetite for golf domination has no bounds. But there is another option to consider. There are probably many golf clubs in your bag, that haven't seen the light of day, or the green of a course since the last time you paid for drinks on the nineteenth hole. So, maybe you should just consider gradually replacing the clubs you really use with new high performance clubs. The next few times you go golfing, don't just keep track of the strokes on each hole. Take an extra golf score card, and just track of the golf clubs you use for each hole. A little more work, but after a few weeks, you should have a pretty good idea of which golf clubs you use the most, and which are just coming along for the ride. You may want to make up your own little custom golf club score card just for this exercise.

If you cant seem to find the time to spend at the driving range and your backyard is too small to practice your golf swing, all hope is not lost thanks to virtual golf. Of course, this is not quite as satisfying as feeling the club strike the ball, but it may be a good solution between trips to the course. As the name suggests, you place a ball on the tee just like you would otherwise, but the ball will not travel outside a certain area. Or, you can opt for a net in which you can hit the ball except you will, obviously, have to hit the net each and every time.

A Good Golf Course Is Half Your Fun

By: Ken Morris

What makes a good golf course? Many people think a golf course consists of nothing more than a large green lawn or field. While it may have this appearance from a distance, a good golf course is much more that. The way the land is laid out is very important to someone looking to buy land to make a golf course. If they choose a large flat piece of land, they'll have a lot of work and expense ahead of them if they want a golf course that golfers will want to keep coming back to.

Although hills may be something that golfers dread during the course of a game, they are also important for the course to help make the game more challenging. A couple of hills will work perfectly. If there were only one hill, some of the more experienced golfers would have it mastered in no time. Trees, those aggravating trees, also make for a good golf game. It takes a really good golfer to be able to shoot around the trees! There should be a nice area for the fairway, an appropriate area for the rough and some sand traps. Some golfers hate sand traps and claim they could do without them, but they add to the game.

The holes on the course need to be all over the place and not in a straight row. If each hole were the same direction and distance, the golfers would get bored very quickly. Even though many golfers complain about certain courses being very difficult to master, these are the very golf courses they want to keep returning to to better their game. These are the types of challenges that make the golfing fun. If playing golf isn't challenging, where's the fun?

The type of grass that is used is important, too. Bent grass greens work the best because the balls are as likely to roll off the greens as with other types of grass. Good maintenance of a golf course is very important in keeping it course golfers will enjoy. Keeping rocks and stones off the course not only helps the appearance but also will make it better for playing. Many golf courses have groundskeepers just for maintaining the course. Speaking of maintenance, the trails for the golf carts need to be kept in good condition as well. When the golfers are riding the carts, they should get as smooth a ride as possible.

Most important is the customer service the golf course owner and crew show to the customers. This is the major thing that will keep the golfers happy and eager to return.

Ken Morris writes for the most part for www.alicante-spain.com , an internet site about playing golf . His abstracts on golf in benidorm are published on his website

How flexible should the driver shaft be? This is a perplexing question for average players who seem confused by the give in a shaft. It's reasoned that the more flexibility a shaft has the greater power behind the point of impact. This is true in a sense but be careful you don't waste money here unneccessarily. Why? Because shaft flexibility should be in relation to the swing speed of a person's swing. The slower the swing the more flexible the shaft; the faster the swing, the less flexible the shaft for better accuracy.

Another good item which is used to protect your golf clubs (normally your woods) is the golf head cover, this is a device which slides over the club and protect the club from damage.

Help for Golf Beginners - Get Started Fast

By: Verlyn Ross

One of the hardest things for golf beginners to realize is the amount of finesse that it takes in order to put the ball into the hole, no matter what kind of shot they are attempting to take. But, on the other hand, don't get blinded by too much science, while you're still a beginner.

Beginners often find it highly useful to learn the basic golf swing mechanics that are in fact responsible for the success or the failure of both long and short shots. Beginners should learn the basics of grip, stance and posture, then build from a small swing to a full swing in easy stages. But, a beginner needs to realize that even on a good day he/she may spend 15 to 20 strokes chipping up to the green. There are a number of golf tips for beginners, but the best way to learn is simply to get out on the course and play.

Taking The Ambiguity Out Of Golf's Fundamentals

If you are just starting out in golf yourself, the best advice is to understand that it's going to take a long time just to get the basics down. You will have your ups and your downs. Learning new techniques while working within your individual style will come in lots of spurts and lots of periods of retreat.

A new technique that you are trying to learn may seem impossible one day, then, through practice and repetition, it will simply come naturally another day in the future.

Stick To The Basics

Stick to the basics is the best approach (a universal strategy that works in every aspect of daily living). As you work your way through golf's plateaus, peaks, and valleys, the most important thing to remember is to stick to the fundamentals.

Strive to improve each and every time you play the game. Learn that tenacity and continuity are just as important as making contact with the ball. The ultimate reward for your positive attitude and consistency in playing on the course will be a strongly improved game, and co-incidentally, the development of a lifelong golf passion.

Become "Friends" With Your Clubs

When you begin learning the fundamentals of golf, another golden nugget of advice that I learned along the way is to stick with the same golf clubs for at least 1 to 2 years. You will be sorely tempted to make much more frequent updates to your equipment. But, when you are experiencing the early stages of golf, the equipment you use should rarely be changed. In this way, you can experience as much stability as possible.

Trusting the same clubs during your initial year or two of golf will also help minimize variables that can affect your game in a negative way. For example, by sticking with the same driver during this time frame, you will learn to identify what factors are making a positive contribution to your tee shots. Changing clubs too often, especially during this learning period, will add confusion in knowing whether your technique has improved.

Conclusion

Golf beginners who are truly committed will eat, drink and sleep golf. Such beginners will have an early on understanding that it will be extremely frustrating in the beginning. That is because the amount that must be learned is truly overwhelm

How To Develop A Perfect Golf Swing To Improve Your Game
By: Gregg Hall

If you are going to be playing golf any time soon then you are going to need more then just agility. You are going to need to be totally limber and focused on the game or you are not going to do so well. Even though you may not need endurance during a game of golf you will need to be focused the entire time and not over swing and get nervous or your game is done. If you want to get a good score and win games then you need to get your swing down, a perfect swing is the missing piece that you need to win a game. If you cannot make a good swing then you will not be able to play the game. You need to be able to swing the club perfect before you start playing real games. You will want to play not having to keep buying balls every hole. Just get your swing down to perfection and then you can start playing games of golf. There isn't anything more important in golf then getting your swing down.

So if you and your family love to golf and you have kids then you should think about sending your kids to golf school there are numerous schools across the country to go to. If you still can at least hit the ball win you swing then these schools won't be able to teach you much. The golf swing needs everything to work together to make one thing work your golf swing. Your upper body needs to be inline and you just need to be focused when you are about to make a swing.

When you are about to make a swing your feet should almost always be shoulder length apart in your stance if they are not then you need to make them that way. If you are using a wider club then you can spread your feet a few more inches apart. If you are using a shorter club then you will need your feet to be closer together. You will just want to have a god stance when you are about to swing. Having proper stance in golf is what having a perfect swing means if you do not have a good stance then you is not going to have a pretty swing.

Your arms and legs need to work together to help you swing to the fullest. If not then you are going to have one ugly swing. Your hands and wrists then need to work together as well to perform a nice swing. After you have all your body parts aligned and you are ready to swing be sure that you have your stance correct and then you can begin to make your swing. Your swing needs to be to the stance of the club so make sure that you are swinging with the right stance when you are playing a game of golf. The longer the club the wider the stance the shorter the club the smaller the stance.

How does that help with golf equipment you ask? Very simply, the players are promoting more equipment to make the game easier for seniors. This forces the manufacturers to step up their game and make some high quality gear they can use to score low that works just as well if not better with their aging bodies. Because of this the demand for this type of equipment is huge.

How To Play Bunkers And Sand Traps

By Lee MacRae

Here are some golf driving tips to make your sand and bunker game better. Take a trip out to the range and see what it does for your score the next time out

Keep in mind that the average sand wedge is designed to hit a ball 40 feet at most. If you have a sand shot that is farther than that, then you will be better off using a pitching wedge to get on the green. A pitching wedge is designed differently, it doesn't have the curve [the bounce] on the bottom of the head. This allows the ball to travel the 10 or 20 extra feet you need on the shot. Just remember to use the right tool for the particular job at hand.

If you find yourself in a sand bunker position where the ball is above your feet remember: do not simply lean back or attempt your swing on a flatter plane. You need to stand as you would for a normal lie. But now you choke down to the bottom of your grip to counter the change in elevation. With the clubface open , take the club back and outside your target line, now swing through along the line of your open stance. If you let your right hand pass over the left, the slope will send the ball left, so keep your hands quiet as the club cuts through the sand.

The sand shot hit from a downhill lie is one of the toughest of all. Here's how to hit it; the key is ball position. As with other downhill shots, you should play the ball back in your stance, in this case roughly opposite your right foot. Next, swing the club up abruptly, breaking your wrists. Keeping your legs and torso steady, hit into the sand 2 inches behind the ball. Follow through normally. There is not much margin for error on this shot, so once you've picked a spot where you want the club to make contact with the sand, concentrate on hitting that exact spot and followed through.

Price is another factor to pay attention to. High prices do not always equate to a higher quality golfing product. When you pay more money, this doesn't mean your handicap will magically decrease. Spend more time choosing the correct product and less money trying to purchase skill. There are also plenty of golfing fads on the market. Don't become a victim to flashy packaging or alluring imagery. Aim for getting the best product for the most reasonable price.

Bunkers And Sand Traps - How To Play Them

By Lee MacRae

Many golfers have a tremendous fear of sand traps and bunkers on the golf course. Let's take a look at some handy tips to improve your play from the bunkers.

Landing in someone else's footprint in a bunker can be very frustrating. Especially if they are rakes stationed around the sand! But getting worked up about someone else's misdeeds won't help you escape. The trick here is to treat your ball as though it were in a buried lie. Pick up the club sharply and hit sharply down behind the ball to avoid the surrounding barrier of sand. You may also want to adjust your angle of attack depending on how the footprint lies. The only difference between the footprint shot and a buried lie shot is that you use a sand wedge and not a pitching wedge. You want to dig through the sides of the footprint [hence the angle of attack] but beyond that it's a normal sand shot.

Sand Trap Tips And Tecniques

By Lee MacRae

Getting a good golf shot out of bunker or a sand trap can go along way to salvaging a golf hole. Here are a few tips that you can use to make your golf game better.

Many golfers are afraid they will take to much sand and not get the ball out of the bunker. You know you have to hit the sand about two inches behind your ball. So, look for anything as a target - a crease in the sand, a small lump, a dark grain of sand, a small pebble - anything to aim for. Concentrate on THAT spot. Forget all about the ball. Just concentrate on hitting your spot in the sand with the right amount of club and swing. The sand will pop the ball out of the bunker.

The average golfer usually fears the shot from a sand bunker and is defeated before they even attempt one. With practice, keeping in mind the proper technique and a few tips and hints, sand play will be a lot easier than you imagined. And your golf game will be better for it.

The glove is there to prevent the club from slipping in your hand and assist you in getting a better grip on the club. There are various types of glove available, you need to ensure that the glove is a good fit and is like a secondary piece of skin.

Golf equipment can be expensive to purchase initially, therefore if you are on a budget you can look into purchasing second hand equipment. The Internet is a fantastic resource for locating good equipment. All golf equipment is not alike, however which is why it is recommended that you investigate each product prior to purchase.

Weighting of clubs is a vital component of today's clubs as players can adjust the height they hit the ball or control shots such as a draw or fade. Slicers eager to find a quick solution to their problem may go for a club with more of a draw bias and vice versa for a player who tends to hook a lot.

How To Play Sand Traps

By Lee MacRae

Here are some golf driving tips to make your sand and bunker game better. Take a trip out to the range and see what it does for your score the next time out

Trying to a hit tee from under your ball is a good drill for getting your drives in the air. It's also a good drill for sand play. Here's how it's done: Tee up your ball in a bunker, and tee it up high. It is the tee from under the ball. Now tee it so that the tee is just barely showing. Hit it out again. Now position the ball so that no part of the tee is visible, the bottom of the ball is flush with the sand. Practice until you can consistently hit the tee out of the sand, then play the same shot while pretending that the tee is still under the sand. The lesson here is that the golfer hits the sand and the sand lifts the ball out of the bunker. So at no point did you think of hitting the ball itself.

Simply because the technique is similar to that used for a level lie from a bunker the sidehill lie is not that tough. While you take into account the affect the slope will have on the flight of the ball, you do not alter the steepness of your swing. A ball above your feet will want to go left. A ball that is below your feet it will tend to go to the right. Just adjust your stance accordto the circumstances and swing along the slope. To make this easier, flex your knees more and stand closer to the ball when it lies below your feet; stand straighter and farther from the ball when it lies above.

Once you have a feel for the basics of playing from sand, you can easily understand some of the finer points of bunker play, and you will find it easy to adapt your technique to different types of sand challenges and lies. Make your golf game more enjoyable with good sand play.
